I have seen so many people who put down Breeders who re-home their retired pets.. this was written by a fellow breeder and says it all...
I am proud of what I do and give people wonderful pets that they enjoy for over a decade. I have helped the sick to have a warm and loving buddy, the mentally challenged to have an unconditional friend, the lonely to have a companion. My dogs are healthy and live a happy life. I retire them at a decent age so that I may continue to provide people with a true and unconditional companion. I am careful about who I retire my loved ones to and think of them often over the years. And in retiring older fur babies, I again give a loving companion to people who lovingly WANT an older baby. People that get my retired dogs know without a shadow of a doubt this baby was cared for and loved and will provide them with a lot of friendly and happy kisses. So if you don't agree for what ever reason to this, go bark up another tree!
What I remind myself is, I am PROUD of what I do. I will NOT let other people take away from me my pride in providing well adjusted and cared for pets to those people who want them. And surely people want them or they wouldn't call me. It is wonderful that people adopt shelter dogs but not everyone wants them. there is not much known about a shelter dog, how it was raised, treated, what issues it may have. Not all people are qualified to deal with that. Thank God there are those that do. Other people want to be able to chose a pup from a breeder that they trust.
And I am that breeder.
I may at times have young adults and older puppies for sale. The hardest part of being a breeder is parting with my beloved pets! But....I also know if I want to continue breeding that I must part with them at one time or another. My adults are STRICTLY house pets. They all run the entire house nearly every day. They are used to being cuddled and loved daily and I will only place them in that same environment. Shih Tzu's should live to be 12-18 yrs old, so buying an adult around 2-5 years old is still very young and they have a long life yet to live. Adults tend to be easier and less time consuming to train. My adults are doggy door and puppy pad trained, so are easily adjusted to most environments... YOU MUST ALLOW THEM TIME TO ADJUST TO NEW HOME!!
There are many reasons I may place my adults. Sometimes we will hold back a couple of puppies to watch and then and place them at a young age for various reasons. Usually the reasons for placing an adult are very minor and does not effect the quality of the pet what so ever.
The prices I ask for my adults are for limited registration and include the fee to have them spay/neutered before going home. I require a deposit of at least half the price After I receive the deposit I will have him/her spay/neutered. They will be ready for their new home usually one to two weeks after they are spay/neutered or when I decide they are 100% recovered and healthy.
If I feel a dog is still of good breeding age and quality, I will consider full breeding rights to AN APPROVED BREEDER ONLY.. I must know with out a doubt that these babies will live in your home and be treated as pets first. If I do not know you personally, I will only consider full breeding rights AFTER you submit a resume. a reference from your Vet, and pictures of your dogs in their environment (the more pictures the better). I do not take requests for breeding rights lightly.
NO BROKERS, PUPPY MILLS, PET SHOPS OR ANY LARGE SCALE BREEDER. PLEASE! I DO INVESTIGATE ALL REQUEST FOR BREEDING RIGHTS.
